Summary

  • Small osseous fractures can belie more extensive cartilaginous injury in nasoseptal fractures
  • Cartilage injury is better assessed with an exam, but obvious septal hematomas should be mentioned as they require drainage
  • The following elements are relevant to closed fixation techniques
    • Displacement/impaction (elevator)
    • Involvement of the bony nasal septum (forceps)
